The hike between the Plan de l’Aiguille (2,317 m) and the Montenvers train station (1,913 m) is one of Chamonix’s most scenic mid-mountain walks, offering sweeping views of the Mont Blanc massif and the Mer de Glace glacier.

After taking the gondola from Chamonix to the Plan de l’Aiguille cable car station, the trail traverses high above the valley with a spectacular panorama of Chamonix and the surrounding peaks. The path undulates gently across alpine meadows and sections of pine forest, often with marmots visible along the way. About halfway, the Signal Forbes viewpoint provides a dramatic overlook of the Mer de Glace—a perfect spot to pause and take in the vast glacier and the towering Drus and Grandes Jorasses in the distance.

The descent to Montenvers winds through pine forests before reaching the historic train station, where you will be able to admire the glacier up close. By taking a gondola down to the glacier and waking through the many ice tunnels and ice sculptures that make up the unique museum.
